Aether Auto’s Essential Tips for Keeping Your Car Clean and Stink Free

Your car is a major investment in both time and money.  While keeping the exterior shiny and polished will project an image to the world, keeping the interior clean and fresh will make your life happier and healthier for you and or family.

Aether Auto’s mission is to create a healthy clean space in the interior of your car.

Start with a clean slate.

You can’t properly clean your car if you are trying to work around everything left in there. Remove all trash, coffee cups, kid’s soccer gear, shopping bags.  Anything that shouldn’t be there or it will get in your way.

Start at the Top

Most people will start vacuuming the carpets when cleaning.  Once you start cleaning the dash, seats, doors, etc. this will just push all that dust and dirt back onto your clean carpet.  So start at the top with vacuuming the headliner with a soft bristle brush attachment. This removes dust and particles that many people do not think of.  Odors can also get trapped here. You can use Aether Auto’s Organic Car Air Freshener and Deodorizer to remove these stale odors.

Polish the Dashboard and Console

Using a damp microfiber cloth, wipe down the entire surface of the dashboard to clear the dust.  Make sure to wipe up built-up grime using an interior cleaner. Wipe down the rest of the console using your damp cloth.  Clean out the drink holders. Brush away the dust from the air vents and between radio buttons using a small brush lightly sprayed with water to help pick up dust.

Polish the Steering Wheel

Wipe your steering wheel down with an antibacterial cleaning solution or wipes.  Wipe thoroughly and then buff. Using your microfiber cloth, wipe down the rest of the dash as well.

Seats

Slide the front seats all the way back to give you room to get the debris (spare change, fossilized French fries, extra pens and little Johnny’s lost dinosaur) from under the front seats. Tilt the seats back so you can get the nose of the vacuum down in the cracks.  You can also use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe down inside the crack to get those “crusties” lodged down there. Then move the seats all the way forward and vacuum underneath from the backseat. Do the same to the back seats with your vacuum and damp cloth.

Clean Interior Glass and Mirrors

Glass may become less clear as your car ages, which can affect the look of your car from the outside, and more importantly, the view from the inside. Stay on top of cleaning both interior and exterior of windows using a high-quality glass cleaner should be a priority.  Roll down the windows a few inches to get the grime along the top edges.

Door Panels

Detailing means just that—finding and dealing with all the trim lines and recesses that a quick once-over cleaning job misses. Using a few Q-tips and an all-purpose cleaner, move along the trim lines to pick up dirt and gunk. Go around all the buttons and controls as well. Use a brush attachment on your vacuum for the door panels. Don’t forget to clean out and vacuum those handy door pockets (another source of unexpected fun buried treasure) and the rear cup holders.

Floor Mats

Remove floor mats and vacuum. Wash mats in the washing machine, if possible, or use a handheld carpet cleaning machine for a deeper clean.  If you haven’t replaced them in a while or they are showing wear and tear, buy new ones.

Brush and Vacuum Your Carpet

Dirt and odors get trapped in carpet and it doesn’t like to let go when you’re cleaning the car.  If you only vacuum it, you’re going to leave plenty behind. Use a stiff brush and scrub the carpet as you vacuum to remove more dirt. . You’ll see the dirt particles come up to the surface so you can suck them up with your vacuum.  Once thoroughly vacuumed, you can use Aether Auto’s Organic Car Air Freshener and Deodorizer to remove stale odors.

How to Get Rid of Your Car's Odor

Odor comes from dirt or garbage you leave in the car.  The more you keep your vehicle clear of clutter, the fewer odors you’ll have to deal with. Baking soda sprinkled on the floors and seats will help eliminate odors.  Make sure to vacuum this up after about 20 to 30 minutes. And if that still doesn’t work, try Aether Auto’s Organic Car Air Freshener and Deodorizer to remove these odors. It’s a better alternative than synthetic and artificial fragrances.
